In the fall of 2021, the Broadway community released a public service announcement to shed light on the underrepresentation of Latin@ creators, actors, performers and artists involved in the day to day operations of the "Great White Way." Coincidentally, 1600 miles due south, students at The Jose Julian Acosta School for the Performing Arts released a video expressing their need to get back into their physical school building after two years or remote learning, post Hurricane Maria and the 2020 earthquakes.
The math associated with these two seemingly unrelated events did not add up.
Yosoy Inc. was born as a result of this disparity. Underrepresentation on Broadway and a closed theatre school was a situation that needed to be remedied.
Initially, the goal was to navigate the reopening of the The Jose Julian Acosta School for the Performing Arts, but why stop there? As the sixth largest school district in US Jurisdiction ,with +/- 850 schools, 225,000 students and 25,000 teachers, Puerto Rico deserves more. Schools need to be destinations not just locations. We must prioritize education and provide every opportunity and resource to its students and future leaders. One opportunity at a time.
One school at a time. The future depends on it.
